Made by Mitchell has no relationship with Sold Out Brands. We didn't work on these campaigns, and nothing here should be read as a claim that we did. Every figure on this page comes from the brand's own statements, TikTok Shop, or trade press, and each one is cited in the Sources section at the bottom.
Most TikTok Shop "case studies" floating around are screenshots with no source, or an agency's own client wins with the brand name blurred out. This one is different on purpose. Made by Mitchell is one of the best-documented TikTok Shop stories in the world: the founder has talked about the numbers on the record, TikTok Shop published its own write-up of the brand's biggest campaign week, and the trade press covered the record-setting livestream within days of it happening. That paper trail makes it useful, because you can separate what actually happened from the mythology that grows around any viral brand.
We're going to walk through two moments, the July 2023 campaign week and the June 2024 livestream, and then pull out the operating decisions behind them. The goal isn't to make you feel bad that your shop isn't doing seven figures a day. It's to show which levers produced those results, so you can decide which ones fit your brand right now.
The Short Version
- July 17 to 24, 2023: TikTok Shop's own seller blog reports Made by Mitchell did about $2 million in GMV in one week, built on flash sales, frequent shoppable LIVEs, creator collaborations, and a bundle tied to a cultural moment.
- June 24, 2024: founder Mitchell Halliday hosted a 12-hour LIVE from Manchester to open TikTok Shop's Summer Sale. TheIndustry.beauty reported about $830,000 in sales during the stream, one product sold every second, more than 600,000 viewers, and $1 million for the day, which it described as a first for a UK business on TikTok Shop.
- The common thread: the brand treats LIVE as a core sales channel with a plan behind it, not as an occasional experiment. The founder is on camera, the offers are exclusive to the stream, and outside creators are brought into the broadcast rather than left to post on their own.
Who Made by Mitchell Is
Made by Mitchell is a UK cosmetics brand founded by Mitchell Halliday. TheIndustry.beauty describes it as established in 2020 and "born from Halliday's love for making products for makeup addicts and self-expressionists." Its best-known product is Blursh, a blush that TikTok Shop's seller blog credits as the original hero product that helped the brand go viral. Later lines named in coverage of the 2024 livestream include Liquid Blursh, Lash Lacquer Mascara, and Blurshed Bronzed Liquid Bronzer.
Two things about the brand matter for everything that follows. First, it's founder-led in the most literal sense: Halliday himself is the face of the content and the host of the biggest streams. Second, it built a large organic audience on TikTok before it ran its record campaigns. TikTok Shop's write-up notes the 2023 campaign kicked off right after the brand crossed 500,000 followers, and TheIndustry.beauty reported that the brand's content had collected more than 25.3 million likes by mid-2024. Neither of those is a tactic you can copy overnight, and we'll come back to that.
Phase One: The $2 Million Week (July 2023)
TikTok Shop's UK seller blog published a breakdown of the campaign titled "How Made by Mitchell hit $2 Million in sales... in ONE WEEK!" According to that post, the brand went in with three goals: grow its fan base, boost sales, and clear some excess inventory. That third goal is worth pausing on. A lot of the brand's biggest week was about moving stock it already had, which is a very different problem from launching something new, and it shaped the offer strategy.
Here's what TikTok Shop says the brand did over the July 17 to 24 window:
- Used a milestone as a launch moment. Crossing 500,000 followers gave the brand a reason to celebrate publicly, and it used that moment to start a run of targeted flash sales that built buzz for the rest of the week.
- Ran LIVEs in more than one format. The brand used TikTok Shop's studio space in Manchester and mixed shoppable LIVEs with makeup tutorials and "get ready with me" sessions, so not every stream was a straight sales pitch.
- Brought its offline events onto the platform. Made by Mitchell runs in-person events it calls Mitchell Marts, and it set up cameras there so those events could sell through TikTok Shop broadcasts at the same time.
- Worked with trusted creators. Creators promoted the products in their own shoppable LIVEs and shoppable short videos, which widened the reach beyond the brand's own followers.
- Rode a cultural moment. The campaign overlapped with the Barbie film premiere, and the brand built a "Barbie Bundle" showing how to create a Barbie look, featured in both LIVEs and short videos.
- Picked products with data. TikTok Shop describes a data-driven approach to merchandise selection, running targeted sales on products that were already popular to push their momentum further.
The result, per TikTok Shop, was about $2 million in GMV in a single week. Halliday referenced the same figure a year later, telling TheIndustry.beauty, "Last year, I celebrated making two million in a week."
Notice what's not on that list: a single viral video that saved the week. The campaign stacked several ordinary tactics at once, each feeding the others. The milestone gave the flash sales a reason to exist, the creators carried the offers to new audiences, the bundle gave everyone something timely to talk about, and the LIVEs were where all of it converted.
Phase Two: The 12-Hour LIVE (June 2024)
Eleven months later, the brand ran the stream that made headlines. On June 24, 2024, Halliday hosted a 12-hour LIVE from Manchester as part of TikTok Shop's Summer Sale event. Sarah Knowles, who posted about the event from the Made by Mitchell side on LinkedIn, wrote that the team had been invited to open the Summer Sale campaign with a marathon livestream "just over two weeks" earlier, and planned the whole thing, including new product launches, in that window while working alongside TikTok.
What happened during the stream, according to TheIndustry.beauty's June 27 report:
- Viewers got exclusive discounts on some of the brand's most viral products, including Liquid Blursh, Lash Lacquer Mascara, and Blurshed Bronzed Liquid Bronzer.
- Several TikTok creators joined Halliday on the stream to show the products, including Amelia Olivia, makeup artists Hollie Flynn and Becky Morgan, and former Love Islander Mary Bedford.
- The brand launched eight new products exclusively on the platform to more than 600,000 people who tuned in.
- One product sold every second, and the session produced about $830,000 in sales, which contributed to $1 million in TikTok Shop revenue within 24 hours.
Halliday's own explanation, quoted in the same piece, is that the team "put everything into making our 12 hour LIVE event the most exciting, engaging and enjoyable shopping experience for our audience," and that hitting the figure in a day "shows the power and potential of TikTok Shop." TikTok Shop's own account, reshared in the Made by Mitchell team's post, says the brand "worked closely with our dedicated LIVE team to build an optimised strategy."

Strip away the headline figures and the same handful of decisions shows up in both phases. These are the parts worth studying.
1. LIVE is a sales channel, not a stunt
Both campaigns ran on livestreams. The 2023 week used several LIVE formats across the week, and the 2024 record came from a single stream that ran for half a day. A brand that goes live once a month to "try it out" is running a different experiment entirely. The lesson isn't that you need 12 hours. It's that LIVE results compound when it's a scheduled, staffed part of how you sell, so the audience knows when to show up and the host gets better each time.
2. The founder is the host
Halliday hosted the record stream himself. That matters because a founder can answer any product question on the spot, carries credibility a hired host has to earn over months, and turns a sales event into something closer to a show people want to watch. Not every founder is comfortable on camera, and not every brand needs the founder to host. But if your founder is willing, it's the cheapest edge available.
3. Offers exist only on the stream
Exclusive discounts and eight products launched only on the platform gave viewers a concrete reason to buy during the stream rather than later. Generic "10% off sitewide" offers don't do that. If the same deal is on your website tomorrow, there's no urgency in the LIVE.
4. Creators join the broadcast
In 2023, creators promoted the brand in their own shoppable LIVEs and videos. In 2024, several of them appeared on the brand's stream. Bringing creators on camera adds their audiences to yours in real time, breaks up a long stream with fresh faces, and gives each guest a natural reason to promote the event beforehand.
5. Every campaign has a hook
A follower milestone, a film premiere, a platform-wide sale event: each campaign had an external reason to exist. That gives creators something to talk about besides "buy this," and gives shoppers a reason to pay attention this week instead of next month.
What Doesn't Transfer to Most Brands
It would be dishonest to present this as a template any shop can run next week. Several conditions behind these results are hard or impossible to copy:
- An existing audience. The 2023 campaign started from a 500,000-follower base. A shop with 3,000 followers running the same flash sale will see a fraction of the traffic, because there's no one to tell.
- Direct support from TikTok. The 2024 stream opened a platform-wide sale, the brand was invited to do it, and TikTok Shop says its LIVE team helped shape the strategy. Most sellers don't get that kind of invitation until they're already big.
- A category built for demonstration. Makeup is close to the ideal LIVE product: it's visual, it's quick to demonstrate on a face, the price point invites impulse buys, and shoppers want to see the color before they buy. A brand selling, say, supplements or replacement filters has to work harder to make a stream watchable.
- Inventory and operations to absorb a spike. Selling a product every second for 12 hours only helps if you can ship all of it on time. TikTok Shop penalizes late shipments, so a sales spike you can't fulfill can hurt your shop more than it helps.
None of this means smaller brands should skip LIVE. It means the right first goal is a repeatable stream that pays for itself, not a record.
How to Adapt the Playbook at Your Size
Here's how we'd translate the case into steps for a founder-led brand that's already selling on TikTok Shop but hasn't made LIVE a real channel yet.
- Pick two fixed weekly slots and keep them for six weeks. Consistency matters more than length early on. A one-hour stream on the same two days each week teaches your audience when to show up and gives you enough streams to compare.
- Decide who hosts. If the founder is willing, start there. If not, plan to hire or rotate a host, and judge them on sales per hour rather than charisma in the first ten minutes. Brands without the time to staff a weekly schedule in-house often bring in an outside team; a TikTok Shop agency that books hosts and runs LIVE schedules is one way to keep streams going without pulling the founder off everything else.
- Make one offer stream-only. A bundle, a limited shade, or a deal that disappears when the stream ends. It doesn't need to be a deep discount. It needs to be unavailable anywhere else.
- Invite one creator per month onto the stream. Start with creators who already post about your product. Give them a segment, a product to demonstrate, and a date to promote ahead of time.
- Give each month a hook. A follower milestone, a seasonal moment, a platform campaign you can join, or a product drop. Write the hook down before you plan the offers.
- Check fulfillment before you push. Before any promoted stream, confirm stock levels and ship times for every product you'll feature, so a good stream doesn't turn into late-shipment strikes.
- Review every stream the same way. Track peak viewers, average watch time, units sold, and sales per hour of streaming. After six weeks you'll know which slot, host, and offer type to double down on.

Questions Brands Ask About This Case
Was the $1 million all from the livestream?
No. TheIndustry.beauty reported about $830,000 in sales during the 12-hour stream, and said that contributed to the brand reaching $1 million on TikTok Shop within 24 hours. The rest came from sales outside the stream that day.
Did TikTok help with the 2024 stream?
Yes, by both sides' accounts. The Made by Mitchell team said it was invited to open TikTok Shop's Summer Sale and planned the stream alongside TikTok, and TikTok Shop said the brand worked closely with its dedicated LIVE team. That support is part of why the result isn't a fair benchmark for a typical shop.
Does a brand need a huge following to make LIVE work?
A large following made these specific records possible, but it isn't a requirement for LIVE to be profitable. Smaller shops typically see far smaller audiences, so the realistic goal is a stream that earns more than it costs to run, and grows a little each week.
Is a 12-hour stream a good idea for a smaller brand?
Usually not at first. A marathon stream works when there's enough audience, inventory, and on-camera talent to keep it interesting for hours. Shorter, regular streams are a better way to build the habit and the data first.
Did Made by Mitchell work with Sold Out Brands or Get Live?
No. This is an independent analysis of public reporting. We have no relationship with the brand.
