Most new TikTok Shop sellers find out how payouts work the hard way. The first big week of sales shows up in Seller Center, the bank account stays empty, and the Finances page says “On hold.” Nothing is broken. TikTok pays sellers on a settlement schedule that starts when the customer receives the package, not when they place the order. How long you wait after delivery depends on a tier TikTok assigns your shop every month, and a slice of each order can also sit in a reserve for 30 days.

This guide walks through the US rules as TikTok publishes them in Seller University: Dynamic Settlement and Reserve Policy (dated July 31, 2026), Finance & Settlement 101 (dated August 10, 2026), and the Finances Page FAQ. TikTok revises these pages, so treat the numbers below as a snapshot and confirm your own tier in Seller Center.

Short version. The settlement clock starts at delivery. New and probationary shops wait 31 days, established shops 8 days, shops with a Shop Performance Score (SPS) of 3.5+ can get 5 days, and 4.0+ can get 1 day. A shop under security review can be moved to a Deferred tier at any time. Separately, part of each delivered order may be held in a reserve for 30 days. Once an order settles, TikTok sends the payout automatically when your balance is at least $1, and TikTok says it usually lands in the bank within 1–3 business days.

Where Your Money Sits Between Order and Bank

The Finances page in Seller Center splits your money into three buckets, and once you know them most “where’s my money” questions answer themselves.

Two rules decide whether a settled order actually turns into a payout. First, TikTok only sends a payout once the settlement amount reaches the $1 minimum. Second, after-sales requests must be resolved first. An open return keeps that order’s money on hold even after its settlement period has passed.

The Five Settlement Tiers

TikTok calls the wait between delivery and payout eligibility the settlement period, and it puts every shop into one of five tiers. The day counts below are from Finance & Settlement 101. TikTok doesn’t publish a fixed day count for the Deferred tier.

TierDays after deliveryWho gets it
Introductory31 daysNewly onboarded sellers and sellers on probation
Standard8 daysThe default for every shop out of probation
Accelerated5 daysBased on shop performance; Finance & Settlement 101 lists an SPS of 3.5+
Express1 dayThe fastest tier; Finance & Settlement 101 lists an SPS of 4.0+
DeferredNot publishedApplied at any time during the month while TikTok runs platform or seller security checks

The gap between Introductory and Standard is the one that hurts. A new shop on the 31-day tier is effectively financing more than a month of inventory, fulfillment, and ad spend before the first order clears. If you’re still in probation, our guide to new seller probation restrictions covers what it takes to graduate, and that’s what moves you to the 8-day tier.

How TikTok decides your tier each month

Under the Dynamic Settlement and Reserve Policy, TikTok evaluates every shop on the 1st day of each month. The policy names three inputs:

  1. Your Shop Performance Score.
  2. The number of orders successfully delivered in the previous 15–45 days.
  3. Any temporary account restrictions.

The result sets both your settlement tier and your reserve level for that month. TikTok’s own takeaway is to keep SPS above 4.0 for the best terms. Because the review happens monthly, an SPS fix you make mid-month usually won’t change your payout speed until the next evaluation. And because delivered order volume is part of the review, a shop with a strong score but very few delivered orders shouldn’t expect the fastest tier right away.

Reserves: The Other Reason Your Payout Looks Short

Settlement timing and reserves are separate mechanisms, and sellers often mix them up. On top of the tier, each shop is assigned one of three reserve levels. For every delivered order, a portion of earnings is held for 30 days from the delivery date to cover possible returns and refunds. If it isn’t needed, TikTok releases it to you after the 30 days.

The policy doesn’t publish what percentage each level holds, and we won’t guess. Check the reserve line in your own Finances page. What the policy and Finance & Settlement 101 do make clear is the cause: shops with chronically high issue rates, such as seller-fault returns or slow return handling, are the ones TikTok says may face reserves. So a reserve is usually telling you something about operations, not banking.

TikTok also says it can change your payout schedule or reserve level at any time based on account status or security checks. That’s why a payout can suddenly slow mid-month even though the regular evaluation only happens on the 1st.

A Worked Timeline

Here’s how one order moves on the Standard tier. The dates are illustrative. Your carrier and tier will change them.

StepExample dateWhat you see in Finances
Customer ordersMonday, Nov 2Amount appears under On hold (“waiting for package delivery”)
Package deliveredFriday, Nov 6Still On hold (“delivered and awaiting settlement”). The 8-day clock starts
Settlement period endsSaturday, Nov 14Order settles; payout starts once the balance is $1+ and no return is open
Money in bankAbout 1–3 business days laterPayout moves from Processing to Paid

Run the same order on the Introductory tier and settlement moves out to early December. On Express, it settles the day after delivery. The order date barely matters. What you control is how fast it ships and arrives, and that’s why fulfillment speed has a direct cash-flow payoff on TikTok Shop.

How Refunds and Returns Come Out of Your Money

When a refund is processed, TikTok takes it from your available balance. If the balance can’t cover it, the amount comes out of your next payout. If your settlement total goes negative, TikTok deducts it from later payouts until you’re back above the $1 threshold. A run of returns right after a big sale can make the next few payouts look much smaller than your order volume suggests.

Who pays return shipping depends on fault. Finance & Settlement 101 says the seller bears the full cost of return shipping and handling for seller-fault returns, such as the wrong item, a defective product, or an inaccurate listing. For non-seller-fault returns, like a change of mind or a sizing issue, TikTok says it often subsidizes part of the logistics cost. Seller-fault returns also drag down SPS, which in turn decides your settlement tier and reserve level. It’s the same problem landing in three places. Our return policy guide covers how to keep seller-fault returns down.

Bank Account Rules That Block Payouts

A surprising number of “missing payout” problems turn out to be bank-account setup problems. Finance & Settlement 101 is strict here:

You can link the account from Finances > Overview, or from My Account > Account Setting > Bank Accounts.

Getting Cash Before Settlement: Daily Advance

The settlement policy points sellers to a feature called Daily Advance. TikTok says it provides up to 80% of the shipment amount the day after shipment, with eligibility decided by its third-party financing partner, Storfund, based on business performance. It’s a financing product, and TikTok’s own article lays out the associated costs, so compare those costs with your margin before you rely on it. For a shop stuck on a 31-day settlement during a Q4 ramp, it can bridge the gap. For a shop with thin margins, the cost of the advance can eat the profit it was meant to protect.

Planning Cash Flow Around Settlement

Payout timing should shape three decisions brands usually make without it.

Inventory reorders

If a creator video takes off, you’ll be reordering against sales you haven’t been paid for yet. On the Standard tier that gap is roughly delivery time plus 8 days plus bank transfer. On Introductory it’s more than a month. Build the reorder budget from settled cash, not from GMV on the dashboard. Our inventory management guide covers stockout planning for viral spikes.

Ad spend

Ad budget gets spent as the orders come in, while the matching sales take delivery time plus your settlement period to turn into cash. A shop scaling GMV Max or Spark Ads during its Introductory period can spend weeks of budget before those sales settle. Pace budget increases against what has actually been paid.

Creator commissions and fees

Referral fees and affiliate commissions are taken as seller fees on each order’s settlement, so the payout you see is already net of them. Creators are paid on their own timeline. If creators ask why they haven’t been paid, our creator payout timelines guide explains their side. For a full breakdown of the fee lines on a settlement report, see TikTok Shop seller fees explained.

How to Move to a Faster Tier

There’s no request form for a better tier. TikTok’s policy points sellers to customer service only for eligibility questions. The way up runs through the monthly evaluation:

  1. Get out of probation. That alone moves a shop from 31 days to 8.
  2. Raise SPS to 3.5, then 4.0. Those are the thresholds Finance & Settlement 101 lists for Accelerated and Express. Shipping on time, valid tracking, low seller-fault returns, and fast customer responses all feed it. Our shop score guide breaks down the inputs.
  3. Keep delivered volume steady. The review looks at delivered orders in the previous 15–45 days, so a quiet stretch before the 1st can work against you.
  4. Avoid restrictions. Temporary account restrictions are an explicit input, and security checks can drop a shop into the Deferred tier at any time.

Mistakes That Slow Payouts

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does TikTok Shop take to pay sellers?

TikTok's US Finance & Settlement 101 page lists settlement periods that start when the order is delivered: 31 days for new or probationary sellers (Introductory), 8 days for established sellers (Standard), 5 days with an SPS of 3.5+ (Accelerated), and 1 day with an SPS of 4.0+ (Express). After an order settles, TikTok starts the payout automatically, and it says funds typically reach your bank in 1 to 3 business days.

Why is my TikTok Shop payout on hold?

TikTok's Finances Page FAQ lists three on-hold reasons: the package hasn't been delivered, there's an open refund or return request, or the order was delivered and is waiting out your settlement period. Payouts also won't go out until your settlement amount reaches the $1 minimum, and after-sales requests must be resolved first.

What is the TikTok Shop reserve?

Under the Dynamic Settlement and Reserve Policy (July 31, 2026), each shop gets one of three reserve levels each month. A portion of earnings from every delivered order is held for 30 days from delivery to cover returns and refunds, and anything unused is released after that. TikTok doesn't publish the percentage for each level, so check your Finances page.

How do I get a faster TikTok Shop settlement period?

TikTok reviews every shop on the 1st of each month using Shop Performance Score, orders delivered in the previous 15 to 45 days, and any temporary restrictions. Leaving probation moves you from 31 days to 8. Finance & Settlement 101 lists an SPS of 3.5+ for the 5-day Accelerated tier and 4.0+ for the 1-day Express tier.

Can I get paid before my TikTok Shop orders settle?

TikTok points sellers to Daily Advance, which it says provides up to 80% of the shipment amount the day after shipment. Eligibility is decided by its third-party financing partner, Storfund, and the feature has costs, so compare them with your margin before using it.
